Shapes of objects in a room can be viewed as part of a pattern. In this case, those squares in the back of the chairs, along with the general rectangular lines, give this setting a modern geometric feel. Echoed in the rug, and themes in neutral tones that complement the dark mahogany wood, this is a rather formal dining area, suitable for smaller rooms.

The very same furniture could possibly get a softer look, if combined with different colors, and perhaps teamed up with a few soft cushions, however, its very design lends itself best to a formal contemporary style.

Stenciled designs are a great way to liven up your interior decor.
They are so versatile, you can stencil nearly anything. You can stencil wool floors, hardboard, walls, ceilings, furniture, and even fabric.
To create a stencil, lay a photocopy of the pattern you wish to cut out, over the sheet of acetate, and tape it down so that it won't shift. Using a craft knife, cut through the photocopy of the design, and through the acetate backing, along the outlines of the shapes you wish to create with the stencil. Then when you lay your stencil over the surface you wish to decorate, dab the paint in the cut out area with the end of the paint brush. When you lift the stencil, you'll have a perfect design, every time!
Use this technique to make attractive borders around room ceilings, the perimeter of the floor, the backs of chairs, curtain ends, window and door frames, and anywhere you'd like a bit of excitement. Your room decor will be uniquely your own when you add this personal touch. Stenciling is fun for all ages, and there are stencil designs to fit every room in the home. Why not attempt one today?

When choosing furniture for your babies, toddlers, and kids, you have several things to keep in mind. How safe is this product? Does it meet the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC ) safety guidelines? That may not be enough. The Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association (JPMA) sets a higher safety standard for certification than the CPSC does. The JPMA certified product index gives you a constantly updated list of manufacturers of JPMA-certified baby cribs.
But is that enough? While JPMA may certify that there is no lead in the furniture paint, there may be other toxic substances that JPMA doesn't check for, and aren't regulated in the industry. Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and formaldehyde are found in many conventional paints, paint strippers, varnishes, furniture oils, caulking, glues, adhesives, and wood preservatives. You need to check what emissions are wafting out of the furniture with the cute decorations. There is nothing cute about sick babies.
The other thing you need to consider is how easy it will be to clean the furniture. Juveniles aren't sterile beings; you will be doing lots of wiping, moping, and disinfecting. Take that into account when you choose furniture. Is it easy to clean underneath? Does it have molding and decorative grooves that will be difficult to scrub? Where might the germs and dust hide from you? Choosing kid's furniture is all about foresight and prevention.

Are you going bankrupt trying to buy a matching dining room set? There's no need! By mixing and adapting disparate designs, we can create a cohesive and attractive dining room decor scheme that you adore. It just requires a bit of thought and a few tools.
Four different chairs can feel like a set if painted the very same color, and stenciled with the very same designs. Use the very same stencil to ring the edge of the table with a border design, and viola! You have a matching set of chairs and table (even if you got each piece at a separate garage sale). This can also be done with rubber stamp art. Painting the furniture all the very same color and then using ink or paint in a contrasting color to stamp the very same design on each piece of furniture will unify the decor theme.
Using the very same fabric to cover or upholster the chairs, and then using that fabric as a border on the table cloth and runners for the china cabinet will create a consistent theme as well. The eye will be drawn to the commonality of the color and texture, rather than the difference in the shape of each chair.
Remember that your dining room is where you eat and converse with friends and family, so dining room decor should not impede easy access, cleaning, or comfort. It is more crucial to have each chair be user friendly, than to have them match perfectly.

Solid wood is a classic way to create a distinguished opulent look and feel in a room, but not the only way, as this brown chaise lounger proves so well.

The cherry finished legs are beautiful but they aren't that dominant in the overall look. What makes this piece of furniture so luxurious is the very shape of the chaise lounger – inviting for a single person to put his or her feet up and relax in peace.
The color is crucial as well, brown as wood, it's both soothing and masculine at the very same time, making this lounger a perfect choice for offices and waiting rooms, as well as a more official living room. It could also work well in a more masculine bedroom, but do not be afraid to soften it a little with a nice warm throw, ready to be wrapped around some lucky person's shoulders.
And if you think a lounger isn't functional enough, keep in mind that this one hides plenty of storage room there as well, right under that seat.

The dark Cherry Rosewood finish is amazing on this piece of furniture, isn't it?

That alone spells out elegance. Add to that the flowing design a la Ming dynasty and you get a perfect stand for a goldfish bowl, or, if you prefer to keep it vegetarian, for a vase or a planter.
While the style is Chinese and Oriental, take note that it would look good in any upscale room, and can blend in with an eclectic collection of other pieces. Casual it isn't, though, and requires some formality around it to fit in properly. So, think Oriental, but think Chinese Emperors rather than peasants.

Soft music, a glass of wine, a cool Summer, Spring or Fall evening out on the patio deck and a warming fire emanating from this gorgeous and very sturdy little dining table's very entrails makes this elegant metal piece of patio furniture far more than one could even imagine. Completely versatile – the center can also be used as an ice tray – it has the gorgeous and textured appearance of fine metal. The mesh dome, congruent with the rest of the design provides a spark arrestor, keeping things safe year round and helping provide an ambiance that is awfully hard to come by. The sheer versatility of this cute item alone makes the investment in fine outdoor living worthwhile.
Made of recast aluminum and therefore holding its durable finish forever, the elegant design would sell the piece, even without its other benefits. 42 inches across, 22 inches high, it makes a fabulous leg rest as well, or so we hear. The inner tray isn't small, I hasten to add. Fully 7 inches deep and 22 inches in diameter, it can hold some good size fire material and last a while.
These days when fire pits are all the rage in landscape design, some thing as portable and pretty as this item can serve the very same purpose yet be moved around at one's leisure. This item is geared to enhancing the outdoor room which we call our landscape or our patios. Comfort outdoors is what the glories of warmer weather are all about. With an item like this, this period of outdoor living can even extend itself into yet more weeks and months. This is a gorgeous and extremely handy piece of outdoor furniture.

When you combine solid wood, graceful classic lines and a cherry finish, you get that distinguished look that is good enough for royalty. This night stand isn't an original Louis Phillipe, but it provides a good example of how period furniture, or furniture inspired by them can create the right atmosphere in a bedroom.

Bedrooms are made for relaxation, so the calming effect of this furniture style can be just perfect. It may not be the focus of the room, but it does accent it. Make sure you balance it out with the right fabrics and textures in the room, to avoid a room that is as well formal (unless of course it's what your aiming for with your design).
This is the sort of furniture that stands the test of time, both in terms of style and functionality. Quality storage, including a felt lined jewelry drawer, and personal space for you to locate your belongings as you go to sleep.

Some furniture have a definite contemporary look and when it comes to a Plasma TV stand, a contemporary look is nearly required. After all, harmony in form and function is always pleasing, and when the function involves a high-tech Twenty-First Century object, what else would you expect but a sleek design like this:

How you work this into your living room, or perhaps bedroom, design is a dissimilar question. Fortunately, the design over here uses light colors, so it should be easy enough to have it blend into an airy well-spaced contemporary room, allowing whatever is displayed on the screen to draw the eye to it.
It's not as well huge, and if your TV is larger than a 42″ screen, then keep looking. If the size is right though, then this can be a great option, allowing for comfortable storage of your media, as well as appliances.

Lighting is an crucial part of room design, and light fixtures are an crucial part of room d?cor. Your choice of light fixture will set the mood for the room. There are so many light fixtures to choose from, you have a wide variety of options to suit every personality and mood.
For a romantic setting, a chandelier allows the light to play on and through the crystal pendants. There are many modern chandeliers that go well with modern d?cor, as the forms change with the times. Be sure chandeliers are hung so that you won't run into them when you walk across the room.
Wall mounted light fixtures are convenient. Since there is no floor stand, they do not have to be moved when cleaning the floor, and they allow furniture to be place underneath them, saving floor space. The shades on wall mounted lights can be angled to illuminate space in particular directions, using the wall as a diffuser to create a soft glow.
Free standing lamps can be sculptures in their own right. Modern designs incorporate d?cor elements to match any taste. An example would be a lamp shade that has metallic figures sculpted to stand on the upper rim of the lamp. The light then casts shadows of the figures on the walls, like a painting on a big canvas.

This is a lovely piece. The hue of the wood is classically elegant without being pretentious. Its airy design leaves the room feeling more spacious and uncluttered.
It fits well in hall ways and small spaces where a bigger table would protrude so as to disturb the flow of Chi (Feng Shui) or cause you to bang your legs (Shin OW!)
This is also a good piece for keeping the peace, as couples are more likely to agree on it when choosing furniture. This table is aesthetically pleasing to all, and is therefore a great gift idea.
Tie together design elements by including several of these tables on a split level or in an over-sized room. Create design symmetry by putting them on both sides of a feature such as a big ceiling to floor window, french doors, or raised bed.
